‘At The End of The Days’

But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.

Daniel 12:13

So we arrive at the end of another year.  We cannot do so without considering that there comes the day when ‘time’ shall be no more.’  God gave to Daniel some insights into the future which He did not give to others. We profit from Daniel’s experiences.  As He completed His revelations to Daniel, God spoke to His servant personally and said ‘go your way till the end, for you shall rest, and will arise to your inheritance at the end of the days.’  Daniel was to continue in his normal routine and habit of life until he died; then he would ‘rest’ until the end of the age. At that point, along with the rest of those who have passed from this scene of time, he would ‘arise.’  Thessalonians tells us that, ‘the dead in Christ shall rise first.’ This was Daniel’s expectation. It is also our expectation. We believe the promise of Christ that He will come again ‘to receive us unto Himself that where He is, there we may be also.’  The ‘inheritance’ is, ‘so shall, we ever be with the Lord,’ in the ‘dwelling places’ which He has prepared for us. With this knowledge, Daniel could continue onward to his own proximate end and face death with equanimity of soul. He took the long look down the ages to the completion of the glorious work of Christ.  From where we are, we can take the long look as well. Christ has reserved our inheritance for us. He will do all that He has said.

Our Glorious, Living Lord,
we look forward to Your coming again.
We praise You that You will bring this age
to the conclusion which You have already determined
and that we shall reign with You.

‘Till the End’

But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.

Daniel 12:13

We are rapidly approaching the end of the year.  As we do, we do well to consider, not only the end of this annual cycle, but more than that the end of all things.  As God closes out His revelation to Daniel, He speaks personally to him regarding his own future. He says, ‘But go thou thy way till the end be: for thou shalt rest, and stand in thy lot at the end of the days.’  What remained for Daniel? According to God he was to ‘go your way till the end.’ Daniel would continue his normal pattern of life, until he came to ‘rest.’ Much of life is regular and routine. We establish patterns of life.  We come and go, eat, drink, sleep, work, then get up the next day to do it all again. This is the normal pattern of life. It may change slightly, but will remain practically the same. What is important for us is that we, in the midst of our regular routine of life, look consistently to Christ.  As Christ developed His disciples. He walked and talked with them under all circumstances. Even after He rose from the dead, He continued to show Himself to them and speak to them of all the things which concerned Himself. Christ is still working to develop His people and to conform us to His Image by His Spirit.  This is a slow process which occurs during the common ordinary routine of ‘going our own way till the end.’ Today, we may look for Christ in the ordinary routine of life. He will be there as we go our way.

Our Gracious Master and Our God,
we rejoice that You are with us throughout all our days,
and in all our ways.
We praise You that You will lead us step by step,
unto our heavenly home.
