Walking Wisely

Walking Wisely

See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise….

Ephesians 5:15

Situational awareness is invaluable for us in every area of life.  When we walk abroad, it is wise to be aware of potential hazards, of impending changes, and of possible circumstances to which we may need to respond in order to keep ourselves and others around us safe.  This is especially true in our spiritual walk of life.  As Paul is instructing the Ephesians on the practical application of what it means to be ‘in Christ,’ he arrives at the point where he enjoins them to ‘walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise.’  How will we manage to be this situationally aware?  It will require wisdom far beyond that of which we are capable.  We can seek this wisdom by resorting to prayer.  ‘If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.’  This means we will, of necessity, daily look to Christ to give us the wisdom to face a number of perplexing situations.  He Alone can enable us to ‘walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise.’  The wisdom that Christ imparts us by His Holy Spirit will preserve us from many pitfalls. Today, let us look to Christ to enable us to walk wisely.

Great God of Wisdom,
we rejoice that You impart wisdom
unto us when we ask You for it.
We praise You that daily, as You show us Christ,
You will also enable us to walk wisely.
