‘Show Me Your Glory’

And he said, “Please, show me Your glory.”

Exodus 33:18

Moses desired to know God more intimately. As he engaged in communion with God, his thirst to know Him increased. As he was on the mountain, receiving revelations from the Mouth of Christ Himself, he grew bolder in his stated desires. Our text for today is the statement of one of those desires. Moses says, ‘Please show me your glory.’ This is an utterly worthy desire upon the part of Moses. It is no less worthy on our part. James reveals this when he says, ‘Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.’ God answers the heart desire of the soul who seeks closer communion and better understanding of Him. He does so by showing us Christ. In the early days of this new year, we have opportunity to chart our course for the days ahead. How will I spend my time? What will I make priority? Will I, this year, seek after a collection of mundane and fleeting experiences? Will I fill my disposable hours with amusements and diversions which will leave me no better off spiritually and perhaps worse? Now is the time for me to seek the Lord as I have never sought Him before. Now there is  hope for me to approach the Throne of Grace to see if I may gain a clearer sight of Christ than I have ever had before. Among all our other petitions for the incoming year, let this rank high among them. ‘Please, show me Your glory.’

Our Glorious and Living God,
we rejoice that we may see Your glory in the Face of Jesus Christ.
We praise You that, line by line, we may behold Him,
The Living Word, in the midst of Your written word.
