Adoption: So What?

Adoption: So What?

“…that we might receive the adoption as sons.”

Galatians 4:5 (NKJV)

“He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name.”

Revelation 3:12 (NKJV)

“As a father pities his children, So the Lord pities those who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust.”

Psalms 103:13-14 (NKJV)

“For whom the Lord loves He chastens, And scourges every son whom He receives. If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?”

Hebrews 12:6-7 (NKJV)
‘The Spirit…Into Your Hearts’

‘The Spirit…Into Your Hearts’

‘The Spirit…Into Your Hearts’

And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”

Galatians 4:6

One of the blessings and benefits of our adoption into the Family of God is that the Holy Spirit has come to dwell within us. Our text today speaks to that point. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is integrally related to the whole concept of the larger scheme of salvation. In fact, Paul states it so boldly in Romans that he says, ‘if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.’ It is the Holy Spirit Who takes the things of Christ and shows them unto us. It is the Holy Spirit Who ‘guides us into all truth.’ It is the Holy Spirit Who convicts us of sin, Who ‘renews us in the whole person after the Image of God,’ and Who ‘intercedes for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.’ So long as we are out of Christ, we ‘have not the Spirit.’ For us, after He has regenerated us, granted us repentance unto life, given us faith to believe, now dwells within us and shall be with us. This is that Spirit Who, ‘bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God.’ For us, this is a great comfort, a great blessing, a great encouragement, and a great assurance. If the Holy Spirit dwells within us, then we as adopted children of the Family of God have reason to be calm, joyful and hopeful for the things we face daily, both great and small.

Our Gracious Master and Our God,
we praise You for Your Blessed Holy Spirit,
that He takes the things of Christ and shows them unto us.
We rejoice that He indwells us and fills us for service,
that we may bring You glory.
