And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen!

Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,”…
II Timothy 2:19a
As Paul wrote the book of II Timothy, he was, in a de facto way, writing his last letter to his son-in-the-faith, Timothy. As he wrote, he articulated simple, but sublime truths which Timothy would be able to employ in his own future ministry, as quotations learned from his father-in-the-faith. One of those serves as our text today, and falls very closely upon the line of the theme we have lately been pursuing of the blessings and benefits of adoption into the family of God. Our text is, ‘The Lord knows those who are His.’ Here is a blessing and benefit of being one of the children of God. God, Who knows all things; Who sees the end from the beginning; from Whom nothing can be hidden; knows His Own children in a special and particular way. According to Ephesians 1, He has chosen them in Christ ‘before the foundation of the world.’ According to Christ, in John 6, the Father has given those people to Christ. According to Paul in our text, He ‘knows those who are His.’ This is for us, a great comfort and assurance. It is important that we know God. It is much more important that He knows us. Today let us joy and rejoice in the blessing and benefit of adoption. We may rest in the knowledge that ‘The Lord knows those who are His.’ His Eye is ever upon us.
Our Gracious God and Heavenly Father,
we praise You that You know us better than we know ourselves.
We thank You that You will continue what You have begun in us,
to conform us to the Image of Your Own Dear Son.
