Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure:  Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it.

John 6:35-40

And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.  But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not. All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. How doth Christ execute the office of a prophet?

Christ executeth the office of prophet, in revealing to us, by his Word and Spirit, the Will of God for our salvation.

1 Luke 4:18-19, 21. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruispreach the acceptable year of the Lord…. ‘Amen’

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Matthew 6:13b

Christ teaches us to complete the prayer He has taught us to pray with the word, ‘Amen.’ To what purpose do we use this word? The word means, ‘So be it’ or ‘Let it be so.’ Hence, in using the word to complete our praying, we are heartily affirming our personal desire that God will bring to pass all for which we have been praying. To the fact that God is ‘Our Father in heaven,’ we say, ‘Amen.’ To the concept that all the world should regard His Name as Holy, we say, ‘Amen.’ We want His Kingdom to come. We want His will to be done ‘on earth as it is in heaven.’ Every day we come to Him as hungry children crying, ‘Give to us this day our daily bread.’ To that we add, ‘Amen.’ Apart from His intervention, we will inevitably succumb to temptation and fall prey to the wiles of the evil one. That He would ‘lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one is our earnest plea, to which we add, ‘Amen.’ We rejoice that ‘His is the kingdom, the power and the glory.’ We are glad that it is so, and want it to be so forever. Therefore, we cry ‘Amen’ to complete this prayer. Even though we may not always understand, we want what God wants. Therefore, we complete our prayers with this hearty affirmation, ‘Amen.’

Our Gracious and Sovereign God,
we rejoice that You accomplish all things according to Your will.
We praise You, that You have given to us the privilege of prayer
and given us a portion of the great work
which You will infallibly perform.

‘And The Glory Forever’

‘And The Glory Forever’

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Matthew 6:13b

As Christ teaches us to bring our praying to a close, He would have us end on a note of glory. ‘For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever, Amen.’ God, Himself has said, ‘Whoso offers praise glorifies me.’ All creation exists for the glory of God. He ordains all that comes to pass and overrules all things for His Own Glory. It is most appropriate that we, who are His Own dear children, by adoption, ‘should be to the praise of His glory.’ When this passing world is done, and the sun, as we know it, has sunk into the distant horizon for the last time; when the night has descended upon the last of our civilizations and all of humanity’s vaunted accomplishments have crumbled into the dust of history, God the Father will remain, Christ will reign, the Holy Spirit will yet move, and God will have all the glory. We have the privilege now to ascribe to Him the glory that is due Him. We glorify the Father. We glorify the Son.  We glorify the Holy Spirit.  We glorify them as the Holy Trinity, the same in substance, equal in power and glory. ‘This God is our God forever and ever. He will be our guide, even unto death.’ Forever after, throughout an endless eternity, we will have the privilege to glorify this Almighty God.

Our Glorious Living Christ,
We praise You that You will receive all the glory in Immanuel’s land.
We rejoice that we will have the privilege to glorify You,
for all eternity.

And The Power

And The Power

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Matthew 6:13b

Christ would have us both recognize and praise God for His Almighty Power. The Scripture everywhere demonstrates it. It was the power of God which spoke the worlds into existence. The power of God has created us, and all that surrounds us. The power of God is what enables life to continue and all things to hang together. He ‘upholds all things by the word of His Power.’ It is within the power of God both to save and to destroy. It is by the power of God that Christ came, lived perfectly, died sacrificially, arose miraculously, ascended physically and will return gloriously. All that Christ is to us is by the power of God. By the power of God He has granted us regeneration, given us repentance unto life and faith to believe. It is by His power that the Holy Spirit ‘renews us in the whole person after the image of God and enables us to die more and more unto sin and to live unto righteousness.’ We praise God for every evidence of His Almighty Power. We have no other God, but the One Who is Omnipotent. This is a great comfort and encouragement for us who are, of ourselves, weak and unable. We come to the Almighty God with mouths full of unending praise to Him Whose is not just the Kingdom, but also, the power.

Our All-Powerful God and Savior,
we praise You that all things bend to Your Will.
We rejoice that You will continue to accomplish Your Plan,
and that at the end, all will be well.

For Yours Is The Kingdom

For Yours Is The Kingdom

For Yours Is The Kingdom

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Matthew 6:13b

As Christ teaches us to complete our prayer to ‘Our Father in heaven,’ He brings us to the place of praise. We have come, as children to an Ever-loving Father with our hopes and desires, our fears and our doubts, our failings and our triumphs. He has shown Himself, in every circumstance to be the God of Grace and the God of all comfort. As we conclude our prayer, we pray, first, ‘For Yours is the Kingdom.’ When we pray this, we are declaring that God is Sovereign. We are acknowledging that He Rules over all of the affairs of all of humanity and that all the universe performs His Will, knowingly or unknowingly. When we pray, ‘For Yours is the Kingdom,’ we are proclaiming our loyalty to God as King and to Christ Who is the ‘brightness of His glory and the express image of His Person.’ We are, by these words testifying that we are glad that it is so. We praise God that He is Who He is, what He is and that His Character, Authority, and Rulership will never end. We are glad to be the children of Our Father in heaven, and the subjects of the High King of All kings. We ‘enter into His Gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise.’ We are thankful unto Him and we bless His Name.  To complete our prayer to this High and Holy One, we begin with the words, ‘For Yours is the Kingdom.’

Our High and Holy King,
we rejoice that You rule Heaven and Earth.
We praise You that all which You have determined
shall infallibly come to pass and that we will rejoice in it.
