God Alone
God Alone
For You are great, and do wondrous things; You alone are God.
Psalm 86:10
Ours is a world of inclusivism. The ‘liberal-minded’ soul is often utterly intolerant of anyone who refuses to recognize every god as acceptable, and every theology as valid. In a sense, everyone is right about god and no one is wrong. Unpleasantly, this flies in the face of the whole of Scripture. Our text this morning affords one simple and sublime truth regarding the God of the Bible. ‘You alone are God.’ The God of the Bible is utterly unique among all other purported gods. Taking the Scripture from end to end and reasoning after the analogy of the faith, we can come to but one conclusion, there is One God, existing in Three Persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. These Three are One, The Holy Trinity, and all Three are utterly committed to the good of God’s Elect. They acted in concert in the work of Creation, of Providence, and of Redemption. We have confidence today that there is no situation globally, nationally, locally, or personally of which this Triune God is not aware, and in which He is not working all things for our good and for His Glory. This enables us to view all things with a settled mind. There may be uproar all around us, yet God is still in control; Christ, is still the Redeemer of God’s Elect; and the Holy Spirit is still indwelling the saints, and ‘reproving the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgement to come.’ Yes, ‘You alone are God.’ We are satisfied.
Our Gracious Triune God,
Beside You, there is no other God.
