‘Draw Me…’

‘Draw Me…’

‘Draw Me…’

Draw me away! We will run after you.  The king has brought me into his chambers. We will be glad and rejoice in you. We will remember your love more than wine.

Song of Solomon 1:4

Our relationship with Christ is a true love relationship. The book of the Song of Solomon expounds it in these terms right from the outset. Because it is a love relationship, we can see the hallmarks of it. In our text for today, the Bride is speaking to the Bridegroom. To put it more plainly, the Church is speaking to Christ. She says, ‘Draw me. We will run after you.’ Some translators have taken the second line out of the mouth of the Bride and put it into the mouth of the ‘Daughters of Jerusalem.’ To do so, does not aid our understanding of the lesson. We only ‘run the way of God’s commandments’ after He has ‘enlarged our heart.’ We want close fellowship with Christ. Wherever He goes we want to follow Him both individually and collectively. We will only succeed in that lofty goal if He ‘draws us.’ We are utterly dependent upon Christ for our justification, and we are utterly dependent upon Christ for our sanctification. As Christ, by His Spirit must draw us unto Himself to become His Bride, so He must continue to move our hearts to seek to be where He is. Our ‘abiding in Christ’ proceeds upon our vital union with Him and His consistent ‘drawing’ of us that we may daily ‘run after Him.’ Today, let us look to Him Who alone can ‘Draw us.’

Our Living, Loving Savior,
our desire is toward You.
Evermore increase our desire, that wherever You are,
we may be also.

‘Altogether Lovely’

‘Altogether Lovely’

‘Altogether Lovely’

His mouth is most sweet, Yes, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, And this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem!

Song of Solomon 5:16

One of our readers wrote a note to us, not long ago, which said, ‘Thank you for writing about the Altogether Lovely One.’ This was very encouraging.  It is our desire above all else to make much of Christ. If we succeed in nothing else, we desire to succeed in that. The note also led us to consider Christ under that title, ‘The Altogether Lovely One,’ which derives from our text for today. How is Christ so? The passage which precedes our text is a physical description of the Bridegroom. Albeit poetical and stylized, it is the closest thing we have in Scripture to a depiction of the Incarnate Christ. What we conclude from it first, is that Christ is, ‘The Altogether Lovely One,’ physically. He is no effete, effeminate Savior. His Body was honed by years of manual labor, His aspect was noble, His bearing regal. Beyond that, He is Altogether Lovely mentally. Listen to His messages. Follow the logic. Wonder at ‘the gracious words which proceeded out of His Mouth.’  He is ‘Altogether Lovely’ spiritually. He exhibits the purest form of theology with the most practical and pertinent application. Moreover, He is ‘Altogether Lovely’ socially. Christ is a very engaging Character. He has a broad appeal. As He is lifted up He draws all manner of people unto Himself. Let us today settle our minds and hearts upon the Great Object of our desires, ‘The Altogether Lovely One.’

Our Altogether Lovely Savior,
how our hearts adore You.
We long forever, to behold Your Beauty for all our days,
and to lie in Your embrace for all eternity.

Song of Songs 2:10 (NKJV)

My beloved spoke, and said to me: “Rise up, my love, my fair one, And come away.

Listen to Tomm Tice detail from scripture the ways God demonstrates His love toward us. Choosing to love us regardless of what we can do for Him.

A Gracious Invitation;
Christ’s Call to Communion

Scripture:

Song of Solomon 2:8-15
The
voice of my beloved!
Behold, he
comes leaping upon the mountains,
skipping upon the hills.
My beloved is like a gazelle or a young
stag.
Behold, he stands behind our
wall;
He is looking through the windows,
gazing through the lattice.
My beloved spoke, and said to me:
Rise up, my love, my fair one, and
come away
For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone.
The flowers appear on the earth;
The
time of singing has come,
and the voice of the turtledove is heard in our
land.
The fig tree puts forth her
green figs,
and the vines with the tender grapes give a good smell.
Rise up, my
love, my fair one, and come away!
O my dove in the clefts of the rock,
in the secret places of the cliff,
let me see your face, let me hear your voice;
for your voice is sweet, and your
face is lovely.
Catch us the
foxes, the little foxes that spoil the vines,
for our vines have tender grapes.
