A Place of Safety

A Place of Safety

A Place of Safety

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the LORD “He is my refuge and my fortress;
my God, In Him will I trust.”
Psalm 91: 1-2

“I dwell in the shadow of the Almighty,” proclaims the contented child.  This is far too wonderful a thought, beyond all comprehension, when we are riddled with the reality of fear.  We all know the trouble, evil and plagues of which the Psalmist writes.  As he intensifies the descriptors, we can clearly picture his plight as he speaks of the escape from the terror of night, the arrows that fly by day, the pestilence that walks in darkness, and the destruction that lays waste at noonday.  These are the ravishing effects of a sin cursed world that we all, at various levels, are keenly aware.

Though he speaks of the reality of the snares and dangers that lurk and loom, he proclaims a far greater truth and reality.  The child of God has a refuge.  The Most High Himself, the Exalted One, the Creator of the Universe is Himself the refuge and fortress for His children.  Those that are in Christ abide in the secret place of the Most High.  The Almighty shelters them under the shadow of Himself.

No harm can come to one so securely sheltered.  The trusting child of God can settle calmly inside this dwelling place, in the presence of Christ, experiencing the benefits of His protection.  He makes safe the child who trusts in Him; “He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and cover you with His wings.”  He makes victorious the one who trusts in Him; “You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the serpent you shall trample underfoot.”  He hears the one who trusts; “He shall call upon Me, and I will answer Him.”  He gives calm and courage to the one who trusts in Him; “You shall not be afraid.”  The child who rests in Him is never alone, for to abide in the secret place is to be present with the Most High in His dwelling place.

Do you find yourself in need of shelter today, in a place of fear and trembling at the sight of the world’s pestilences?  Rest securely in the safety of your Savior.  Find refuge in the One who can truly give it.  Look to your Most High God to provide all that you need in the sight of fear.

God Most High,
You are our refuge and our fortress.
Help us today, to rest securely under the shadow of your wings.
Conquer all our foes,
Bring peace to our souls.
