Redeemed, And Saying So

Redeemed, and Saying So
Good news is worth spreading! Today’s text exhorts those of us who are recipients of saving grace to publish that abroad. For us to be redeemed is to bear a privileged title. It points first, to the sinful estate from which God has redeemed us, for He “brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay.” Sin was as natural to us as breathing. Along with that natural sinfulness there was slavery. We could not at all break the bonds of our sin nature nor free ourselves from the specific sins which we loved. We did not even possess the desire for freedom.
The title “redeemed” points to the cost of our redemption. Redemption involves the payment of a price. Christ purchased our redemption at no less a cost than His own life’s blood. Nothing less than the very blood of God Himself would redeem fallen humanity from the bondage of sin and the prospect of hell.
The title “redeemed” points to the completeness of our redemption. We are not merely in the process of being redeemed. It is an accomplished fact. Christ has made His purchase, paid the full price, and done the work. What a privilege to have all the blessings of redemption and to bear the title which goes with the standing in grace. How can we be SILENT? “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so! A weary, waiting world needs to hear that Christ is the Redeemer and does save sinners such as us. They need to hear that He will save them too. The struggling saints of God want to hear that we are redeemed, because it will encourage them along the road to glory. The enemies of the Lord ought to hear it, because it will demoralize and discourage them. What a mighty blow to their cause, that we are redeemed and secure in the arms of the Victor. The God of Grace and Glory deserves and delights to hear it, because He deserves unending praise for it. All our hearts should fill all our mouths with the most abundant, continual, exuberant thanksgiving to God that He has redeemed us. “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so!” And keep right on saying so. What a high privilege! What a glorious opportunity!
