Trust in the Unforsaking One
And those who know Your name will put their trust in You;
For You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.
Psalm 9:10
Whom can you trust in a time of trouble?  We may at times feel very much as if we are “on the high wire” and “working without a net.”  If we lose our balance or the wire breaks or the wind blows us off, we will likely perish.  No one who has ever had this experience in spiritual things can say it was easy to endure.  Yet in bringing us to a clearer understanding of what it really means to trust in Christ, God does bring us to such an experience for the good that it will do us.  In the most precarious circumstances of life, we who know the Lord put our complete trust in the Lord, with the absolute confidence that He has not forsaken us.

It is the matter of first importance that we have the knowledge of the Lord.  It is “they that know Thy name” who are the people in view here.  We know the Name of God in a saving way by receiving the Christ of God as our Saviour, by coming to Him, empty-handed, in repentance and faith.  We know His Name intimately as “Our Father which art in heaven,” as we daily make our petitions known before His Throne of Grace.  We know His Name powerfully, as we observe Him intervening on our behalf in situations we thought impossible.  As we see the manifest grace of God to us in so many areas of life, we trust in Him more completely.  Our faith increases and strengthens as our spiritual life progresses.

Never is our faith in Christ more vital to the wellbeing of our emotional frame than when we are in trouble.  When our souls are in anguish we must put our trust in Him.  In these most troublesome times, we do so knowing that Christ our Saviour has said, “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”  This assurance bolsters our soul when all else around us gives way.  We know His name.  We have put in Him our complete trust.  We have absolute confidence in the fact that He will not forsake us.  Let your soul rest in this blessed assurance today.

Our Gracious Upholding God,
we are again cast upon Thee.
“Whom have I in heaven but Thee?”
Thou art all our hope.
We trust in Thee.
