Lift Upward

The way of life winds upward for the wise, That he may turn away from hell below.

Proverbs 15:24

Christ elevates our eyes unto the heavens.  We, by nature, look unto earthly things.  When by grace our souls are transformed; when Christ enters by His Holy Spirit; when we have become new creatures in Christ Jesus, there is a spiritual vision which we obtain that allows us to see beyond all that is earthly unto all that is heavenly.  For those of us whom God has made “wise unto salvation” our whole life is “above” as our text describes.  Our God is “above,” for “our God is in the heavens.”  Our Bible is from above, because “all Scripture is given by inspiration of God.”  Our Savior is from above, for He said, “I am the bread which came down from heaven.”  Our redemption is from above, for “salvation is of the LORD.”  Our help is from above, for we “lift up (our) eyes unto the hills from whence cometh (our) help.”  Our home is above, for Christ declared, “I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”

All these things which are “above,” taken together, lead us to consider that we are the most abundantly privileged people upon the face of the earth.  Our “way” is “above,” that we “may depart from hell beneath.”  Considering the damnation which we, by nature, deserve, it is the greatest mercy that we have become the recipients of the heavenly wisdom which has made the difference for us between spiritual life and spiritual death, between heaven and hell.

Rejoice today in your life in Christ, which is “above” in every way.  Rise up upon the wings of faith to enjoy what you are and have in Christ.  For you, “the way of life is above.”

we pray that Thou wilt 

uplift us today

to see all that we are 

and have in Thee.
