A Place for Us

In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

John 14:  2 & 3

There’s a place for us!  Because of our calling in life we may not acquire a large quantity of this world’s goods.  Still less, we may not ever be able to say, “This is my place; I own it.”  Hebrews 13:14 even reminds us that ‘here have we no continuing city.’  Christ was, of course, aware of all of that on the night before He went to Calvary.  To an increasingly uneasy group of disciples He said, ‘Let not your heart be troubled.’  He knew the distress that these disciples would experience the moment that they realized He was no longer with them.  His presence was their comfort.  His presence is our comfort.  He diligently addresses the reality of their coming despair by graciously assuring them, that He had a place for them.  What was good for them is good for us as well.

Christ has a place for us.  It is a place which He has purchased for us with His Own blood.  It is a place of peace, far from this world which offers no peace in its warfare against our souls.  How pleasant it is for the soul’s contemplation, He is even now preparing that place for us.  For well nigh two thousand years the Son of God Who, created the world in six days, has been preparing the habitation for us, the people of God.  What is more, Christ assures us that He will bring us to that place.  He declares, “I will come again and receive you unto myself.”  That is a sure promise, that brings expectant hope to the Children of God.

Not only is there a place for us, but also Christ Himself will personally take us there.  To add to the prospect, He goes on to assure us that the reason He will do all this is ‘that where I am, ye may be also.’  Heaven without Christ would be no heaven at all.  Hell would be heaven if Christ were there; it was for the three Hebrew children.  Heaven is about the presence of Christ, being with Christ, wherever He is.  Be encouraged by this today:  Your ‘place’ is with Christ in glory, and all that lies before you, according to His promise.

Gracious and Beloved King,

We long to be with you.

Remind us of Your presence today

and your promise of preparation

for our home in heaven with You.
