A Worthy Question
A Worthy Question
What shall I render to the Lord for all His benefits toward me?
Psalm 116:12
There are some truly momentous questions which we should ask ourselves in life. Our text today is one of them. If we can stop the hurrying and scurrying of our very busy lives for a few moments and ask ourselves this question, a truthful and wise answer will influence the whole of our behavior forever thereafter. As a preliminary consideration, what exactly are the benefits which He has bestowed upon us? The election of God, wherein He chose us in Christ before the foundation of the world, is certainly a place to begin our enumeration of benefits. Next, we should list the plan and purpose of God, which results in our salvation, as an overwhelming benefit. If we enumerate it accurately, we will have a long and detailed list. Added to these are all the abundant providences which He extends to us. He provides for us in more ways than we can easily rehearse or even comprehend.
All of these benefits are inextricably linked to the Person of Jesus Christ. When I gaze into the face of the Ever-Living, Ever-Loving Christ, my soul is filled with an overflowing desire to return whatever I can to such a Savior. What does He most desire? He would have me love Him with all my heart, soul, mind and strength. He would have me walk with Him and talk with Him. He would that my whole soul interact with Him with warmth and fervency. Today let me explore before the face of such a loving Savior what I may possibly render to the Lord for all His benefits toward me.
Our Most Gracious and Loving Savior.
We praise You for all Your abundant benefits.
Teach us today how we may render
to You that which most delights Your Holy Heart.
