Casting Care Upon Our Caring God

Casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you.

1 Peter 5:7

We all have our cares, and our God has the remedy for them all.  We hear it often, and know from painful, personal experience, that this is a careworn world.  With so much around us to weigh us down, what can we do to relieve the pressure that care brings?

Peter offers to us the best advice possible when he writes. ‘Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.’  It will not do for us to merely cast a portion of our burdens upon the Lord.  It must be ‘all’ our care.  Whether it be our physical care, having to do with food, raiment, health or housing; or our mental care; that is, our fears, our forebodings; or our memories of a painful past; whether it be that social care of loneliness or alienation; or our spiritual care of having ceased to enjoy the blessedness which once we knew, all our care, of every variety, is a candidate for being cast upon the Lord.

We must cast these cares forth from both heart and mind through the instrumentality of believing prayer.  That faith which we exercise in prayer is aided by the evidence that God cares for us.  He cared enough to love us, and choose us before the world began.  He cared enough to send His only Begotten Son for us.  He has cared enough to have brought us thus far along the road of faith.  He has cared enough to swear in Holy Writ that He will bring us all the way to His Heavenly kingdom.  We have the Word that tells us that He cares, the Holy Spirit, who assures us, and the history of the saints which illustrates it for us.  Let us take the full inventory of our cares today and cast them all upon Him ‘for He careth for you.’

Our Gracious God and Father,

You care for and sustain us from the beginning to the end.

Teach us to pray and cast our cares upon You,

 Who graciously cares for us.
