Pleasure, At His Right Hand

You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Psalm 16:11

David, and many other Old Testament people, had more evangelical knowledge than we perhaps give them credit for having. In our text for today, he expresses the great future hope of the saints of God for their eternal place in the Presence of God. His expectation is our expectation. According to the Apostle Paul, for us to be ‘absent from the body,’ is to be ‘present with the Lord.’ What can David’s Divinely inspired statement mean? The ‘right hand’ is the location of the honored guest. It is a place reserved for a specific individual. Christ has a special place reserved for His Bride, the Church. David understood that as a member of the people of God, there was, in God’s Presence a place reserved for him. If you are in Christ, there is such a place reserved for you. David remarks that at that location there are, for him, ‘pleasures.’ What greater pleasure can there be than to enjoy the uninterrupted communion with being in the Presence of Christ Himself? To hear the gracious words that proceed out of His mouth; to behold His ruling of the new heavens and the new earth; to have the ‘pleasure’ of learning more of His Holy Character. These are ‘pleasures’ indeed. The capstone is that these are pleasures that we shall enjoy, ‘forevermore.’ There will be no end to our enjoyment of Christ. This is the overwhelmingly brilliant prospect of the Redeemed of Christ. Contemplate the joy that lies before you Saint of God. This is your future.

Our Great Savior,
We long to be with You.
Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
