My Times are in Your Hand

My times are in Your hand; Deliver me from the hand of my enemies, And from those who persecute me.

Psalm 31:15

There are few other doctrines which can so thoroughly comfort and encourage the soul as that of the Sovereignty of God. So much of human life is related to issues of control. Politics and laws are about control. Personal conflicts, national conflicts, and even global conflicts are about control. The Child of God has the blessed assurance that above all others who seek to control, God is in control.  He is ‘in the heavens,’ and ‘has done whatsoever He has pleased.’ When this becomes very personal is when we consider such a text as lies before us today; ‘My times are in Your Hand.’ In Christological terms, my times are in Your Hands, O Christ. You hold my times of joy and of weeping, my times of success and failure are in Your Hands. My times of fear and courage; my times of encouragement and discouragement; my times of gladness and of sadness; my times of youth and of age; my times on earth, and my time to enter into heaven; all of these are in Your Hands. I would not wish it any other way. No other hands are so loving. No other hands are so skillful. No other hands have the caress of the morning mist, and the smoothness of the evening breeze. No other hands can so bear me up in battle, or cover me as I sleep. In joy and sorrow, weal and woe, in life and death the motto of the Saint of God is; ‘My times are in Your Hand.’

we rejoice today that
You are absolutely in control and that
our times are in Your Hand.
