Perfect Servants, Serving Perfectly

Perfect Servants, Serving Perfectly
And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him.
Revelation 22:3
Christ is both Savior and Lord. As Savior, He is Worthy of our love and devotion. As Lord, He is worthy of our obedience and service. Alas, at this stage of life no matter how sanctified we are, or advanced in personal holiness, we must admit that we are deficient in all those aforementioned things. Our text today alludes to a brighter prospect, ‘And His servants shall serve Him’. What a tremendous prospect. One of the most exciting aspects of this text is that it indicates that we, in the eternal state, shall engage in purposeful activity. So often, writers describe the eternal state as if we are sitting around on clouds, plucking harps for eternity. For people of activity this sounds incredibly boring. Our text indicates something else entirely. It indicates service for the King. Where will He send me next? What message will He have me deliver to some far flung corner of what universe? What errand is mine to perform? How shall I glorify Him by the carrying out of His Sovereign Will? Moreover, our text, because of the context, implies perfect service. We serve Christ now, however, we serve imperfectly. Our best service is tainted with the defects of our motives, our execution, and our inabilities, Not so then; then we will be perfect servants, serving perfectly. The same Christ Who redeemed us, will make us perfectly able to serve Him with perfect hearts, perfect minds, perfect bodies, and perfect ability. Lord, haste the Day, when we, Your servants, serve you perfectly.
Our Most Holy and Righteous God,
We delight to serve You now.
We long for the day when we will serve You with utter perfection.
