Our Incomparable God

Among the gods there is none like You, O Lord; Nor are there any works like Your works.

Psalm 86:8

There are many erstwhile ‘gods’ in the world in which we live. The human heart is, by nature, religious. Because it is, humanity will worship some thing or someone. Even if they only worship themselves, believing, as a relative of mine, once said that, ‘Capital S.E.L.F. is God,’ they will bow down at that shrine. By contrast, our text for today declares, ‘Among the gods there is none like You, O Lord.’ Ours is the Incomparable God, and with that, we understand that ours is the Incomparable Christ. If we speak of Our Incomparable God as Creator, we must in the same breath, speak of Christ for, ‘In the beginning was the Word,’ and, ‘All things were made by Him.’ If we would speak of the Incomparable God as the Upholder of all things, we must speak of Christ, for ‘He is before all things, and by Him all things consist,’ or ‘hang together.’ If we would speak of the Incomparable God regarding the ordering and arranging of all circumstances and conditions, we must speak of Christ, for He is Our Shepherd, and because of Him we shall not want in life, in death, or in eternity. All things respecting us ‘work together for good.’ If we speak of Our Incomparable God with regard to eternity, we must speak of Christ, for He promises, ‘where I am, there you may be also.’ Our Incomparable God is inextricably bound up with the Person of Our Incomparable Christ. There is, in fact, no other God worthy of serious mention. Rest, Child of God, today, in your Incomparable Christ.

Our Gracious Lord,
Beside You there is no other.
We acknowledge no other God but You.
We worship You and You Alone.
