The Best Messenger For The Last Time

God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds.

Hebrews 1:1,2

God typically saves the best for last. Our text this morning follows on the heels of a reference to the multi-faceted revelations of the Old Testament. The writer of Hebrews speaks of the many types of revelations of the former era. The diverse manner of the revelations include the types and symbols of the tabernacle, the patriarchal experiences, the wonders, and the miracles. Beyond that there are the declarations of the prophets. All of those messengers, useful and effective as they may have been, cannot compare to Christ, Who is the Best Messenger for the last times. God ‘has in these days spoken to us by His Son.’ Here is the Greatest of Messengers, with the Greatest of Messages. As we wend our way through the Gospels, what do we see and hear? We see the Epitome of Grace Speaking Graciously and doing Gracious things. We hear the Embodiment of Wisdom Speaking Wisely. We hear Him speaking ‘as One having authority, and not as the scribes.’ We hear words dropping from His Divine Mouth, like honey from the honeycomb. If ‘man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God,’ then we are a highly privileged people, for God, ‘has in these last days spoken to us by His Son.’ This generates in us great desire. We cry out, ‘Speak Lord, for your servant hears.’ Let us today, feed upon the Words of the Living Word, and have our souls satisfied.

Our Wonderful Savior,
Speak to us today.
Feed us continually with the words of Life.
