Under The Shadow of the Almighty
Under The Shadow of the Almighty
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
Psalm 91:1
There are incidents in life which can be quite terrifying. What terrifies one person, may not terrify another; however, we all have our monsters. They may arise from our memory, or be present in real time. In either case, we find ourselves far beyond merely being disturbed. We are, in fact, terrified; although others may not perceive it because, of course, it is not their monster. In such moments, we seek comfort, security, and the calming effect of someone who is greater than ourselves. Christ is that Person. Our text today expresses peace, comfort, security, and certainty, “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”
Like the frightened chick that scurries to the mother hen, and cuddles up under her protective wings, so we, in our most fearful moments fly to Christ. He is the Rock in Whose Cleft we may abide. He covers us with His Own Almighty Love. As we dwell in the ‘secret place of the Most High,’ our soul becomes calm, quiet, peaceful and at rest. The storm may continue to rage outside, but we are safe in the Arms of Jesus. His Shadow protects us from the monsters that terrify us most. Child of Grace, you find yourself today beset by many fears. Realize, that Christ is greater than your fears, more powerful than your monsters, and more secure than any other fortress. Dwell today, in the secret place of the Most High. Abide in the Shadow of the Almighty. He is all your security. He will shelter you, and keep you safe.
O, Rock of our salvation,
how grateful we are,
to dwell in safety underneath Your Almighty Shadow,
here our souls find rest and peace, for time and for eternity.
