Our Faithful Christ
Our Faithful Christ
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.
I Corinthians 10:13
If we are going to experience temptations, we are going to stand greatly in need of our Faithful God. Having raised the subject of temptation, the Apostle quickly brings forth the faithfulness of God unto us, His tempted people. We do suffer common temptations, and we understand that we will suffer them commonly. We also understand that not only other believers, but also Christ Himself, has suffered those same temptations. Having established that fact, we turn our eyes immediately to Christ, Who is the Living Embodiment of the Faithfulness of God. Behold, the Divinely revealed history of the faithful dealings of Christ with His sorely tempted people. He was faithful when Joseph endured temptations at the hands of Potiphar’s wife. He was faithful when the four Hebrew children endured the temptation to be defiled with ‘the portion of the king’s meat.’ He was faithful when they suffered the temptation to bow to the king’s idol. He was faithful when Daniel came under temptation to hide his habit of prayer. All of these instances, and countless more besides, are evidence of the unswerving, abiding faithfulness of Christ unto His saints in the midst of their hardest temptations. Be mindful today, tempted saint, of the faithfulness of Your never-failing Christ.
O faithful Christ, we look to You today,
in the midst of our sorest temptations.
You and You alone are able to uphold us.
‘Lead us not into temptation but, deliver us from evil.’
