Taking The Cup of Salvation

Taking The Cup of Salvation

Taking The Cup of Salvation

What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me? I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord.

Psalm 116:12, 13

It is important to put first things first. The writer of the Psalm we are considering understood this. He has raised the question in our text from yesterday, ‘What shall I render unto the Lord for all his benefits toward me?’ His first conclusion is, ‘I will take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord.’ Here is the matter we should make our priority.  Before we attempt to return to God anything in gratitude or service for all the benefits which He has bestowed upon us, we must first drink of the ‘cup of salvation.’ It is the purpose of this little work to encourage the saints of God in their daily walk with God. Having said that, we would be utterly remiss, if at times, we do not sound the Gospel trumpet in the ears of anyone who would come across this work being, as yet, out of Christ. To ‘take the cup of salvation, and call upon the name of the Lord,’ is to repent and believe the Gospel. It is to ‘believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved.’ We deliver unto you, that which we have also received ‘how that Christ died for our sins, according to the Scriptures and that He was buried and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.’ If you would ‘render’ anything unto the Lord in return ‘for all His benefits’ He desires your heart, and that you ‘call upon the Name of the Lord.’ ‘Seek the Lord, while He may be found. Call upon Him while He is near.’ As you read this little work today, God is perhaps even now opening your heart. Embrace Christ, as He is freely offered to you in the Gospel. Do not delay. Rest by faith, in the Savior. Take the cup of salvation and call upon the name of the Lord.

O, Great Saving God, I come to You today,
a poor and wretched breaker of Your law.
Cleanse my soul from sin, save me for Jesus’ Sake.
Enable me by Your saving power to drink of the cup of Your salvation.
