Christ Alone

And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

Acts 5:42

A woman in love has but one subject on her mind. She is consumed with the great love of her life. So it was with the Apostles. We find in our text, ‘they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.’ In fact, Christ was their only subject. They were utterly and completely consumed with the Person and Work of Christ. Would they speak of the commandments of God? Yes, but they would speak of them within the context of the perfect obedience of Christ. Would they discuss morality? Yes, they would, but they would do so in relation to the transforming power of Christ. Every subject to which they would, in any context refer, would hark back to their one Great Theme, the Person and Work of Christ. This is the overwhelming effect which Christ has upon those whose lives He transforms. Is it not so with us? As we gaze upon Our Blessed Savior; as we contemplate the Beauty of the Lily of the Valley; as we inhale the fragrance of the Rose of Sharon; do we not find that He becomes the Preeminent Subject of our conversation? All other lesser subjects fade into insignificance by contrast to this One Great Subject. Here is the effect of Christ filling all our vision. Here is the result of much time spent alone with the Altogether Lovely One. We find ourselves consumed with the Great Love of our life. We cannot do otherwise than to ‘teach and preach Jesus Christ.’

Our Gracious and Loving God, and our Precious Savior,
we rejoice that You are the Great Theme of our life.
We praise Your Holy Name, that we have the high privilege and grand opportunity
to speak of You daily, both in public and in private.
