Our Silent Wait
Our Silent Wait
Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation.
Psalm 62:1
One of the most difficult things for us to endure is to wait, especially if that wait is in silence. We hope, we desire, we anticipate, we hold our breath in expectation; thinking that any minute now something is going to happen; God is going to move. This waiting often goes on much longer then we think we can endure; yet somehow, events turn, God intervenes and we are, if not fully satisfied with the immediate outcome, at least able to take the next step toward resolution. How can we wait in silence with confidence? How can we endure the strain that such circumstances inevitably bring to our souls? The answer lies in the second portion of our text, ‘From Him comes my salvation.’ Most specifically, ‘From Christ comes my salvation.’ Dear silent waiting soul, Christ holds out a delicious promise to you with which you may feed your hungry soul. He says, ‘They shall not be ashamed that wait for me.’ This is true in matters great and small. In matters of eternal salvation, Jesus saves. In all lesser matters, Jesus saves. There is no circumstance, however great or small, in which Christ, Who is the Author and Finisher of our faith does not have vital interest and in which He will not, in His own time and according to His Own Purpose intervene. Our soul may wait in silence, but that silence may be a confident silence, as we await the intervention of our Never-Failing Christ.
Our precious and our Loving Heavenly Father,
we praise You today that we who wait upon You,
shall never be ashamed.
We rejoice that You will perform all the things
that pertain unto us in Your Providential Time.
