The Son of God

Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, of a truth thou art the Son of God.

Matthew 14:33

The Scripture is the unbroken revelation, from beginning to end, of the person and Work of Jesus Christ. All the types, shadows, ceremonies and symbols are sign posts, pointing to the Savior. Our text today shows us the end result of Christ’s miracle of walking on the water. ‘Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.’ Here we see the Grand Purpose behind what has gone before. It is the purpose and intention of Christ that we should know Him, and worship Him. This miracle was but one in a series of convincing words and works calculated to confirm the True Identity of Christ, in the minds of the disciples. Years from this night, they would be telling this story in some far-flung mission field as part of what they ‘had seen and heard.’ The more convinced we are of the Identity of Christ, the more bold we shall be in our testimony of Christ. The whole purpose of this little work is to promote the Person and Work of Jesus Christ for the uplifting and edification of the saint of God; and the presentation of Christ to the lost. Ours is but a small contribution to the larger witness of the Church of Jesus Christ, all the redeemed of all the ages. We say with John, ‘But these are written that you might believe, that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you might have life through His Name.’ All the words, all the works, all the preaching, all the revelations join together in one voice to testify throughout all the ages that Jesus Christ is King of Kings; Lord of Lords; the Root and Offspring of David; the Bright and Morning Star; The Son of God.

Our Most Gracious and Loving Savior,
You are all our Hope and Stay.
We rest upon You completely.
We trust You utterly.
We stand upon Your Merits.
You are our All in All.
