To A Place of Safety

To a Place of Safety
And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.
Matthew 14:32
Our text today follows upon the heels of Peter’s frightful moment. Christ had lifted Peter up out of the water and had instructed him regarding faith and confidence in Himself. Our text for today describes what happened when Peter and Christ arrived at the boat. ‘And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.’ How did they arrive there? Imagine, if you will, please, Christ and Peter, arm in arm, strolling across the water to the haven of safety. When we have been badly shaken, it is a great comfort to have a loved one take us by the arm and walk with us to a place of safety. Somehow, just the presence of that loved one, calmly conducting us to the place of quiet peace has an overwhelmingly beneficial effect upon us. So we find that Christ does with us. How often, after moments of great frightfulness, has Christ drawn along side us through His Word, or by the preaching of it, or by the friend who speaks to our heart a word in due season. He has, as it were, linked His Almighty Arm in ours, and, whispered in our ear, ‘It’s going to be alright. Come on, you and me; let’s take a walk together.’ Christ graciously leads us to that quiet peaceful place, and we realize that His Presence has gladdened our hearts, and soothed our soul upon the way. Christ is very solicitous of our peace. He lends us His Arm upon which we, as the Bride of the Song of Solomon, can lean. He communes with us along the way, and in a few steps we arrive, with Him, at that place where the wind has ceased, and all is calm.
Our Great Savior and Our Almighty God,
we thank You and praise You,
that You enable us to lean upon Your Everlasting Arms,
that You hold us up until all is peaceful and calm
within our otherwise troubled souls.
