Walking On The Water To Jesus
Walking On The Water To Jesus
And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
Matthew 14:29
The Scripture records that only two people ever walked upon the water. The first was Christ. The second was Peter. Because we know Who and What Christ is, we accept very readily and easily that He performed such a miracle. When we come to Peter, it is a somewhat different matter. Peter had no supernatural ability. He was utterly human. He was, at times, hot-headed, and impetuous. How could it be that he was able to do that which Christ Himself was able only to do? Simply, this: Peter ‘walked on the water to go to Jesus,’ because Christ enabled him to do things that he could never have done otherwise. This is the story of the saints of God. This is the history of the Christian Church. Christ enables His people to do what they could never do otherwise. This holds true in every respect. The Holy Spirit of Christ grants to us regeneration, repentance unto life, and gives us faith to believe. He enables us to do what we could never do otherwise, to be saved. Subsequent to salvation every advancement in the Christian life is the direct result of the empowerment of Christ. All our graces; all resemblence to Christ; all our spiritual successes; all our labors in the Gospel are all due to the empowerment of Christ. Christ put it well when He said, ‘without me, you can do nothing.’ Whatever you are about to undertake today, look to Christ. He is the Great Enabler. He is able to enable you to do that which you could never do otherwise. ‘O, Great Savior, empower us today.’
O, Christ our Savior, we praise You today,
that You lift us up, to walk with confidence,
in places where we would never dare to step, if it were not for You.
Uphold our faltering souls today, that we might walk upon our high places,
borne up by the Hand of our Almighty God.
