God’s Secure Children

Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will….

Ephesians 1:5

The Apostle Paul, writing by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, lays down high doctrine upon high doctrine and brings them home in a most practical way. In our text for today he declares, ‘Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.’  Having spoken of election, Paul moves onto the natural logical subject of predestination, and says, that the end of predestination for us is ‘the adoption of children.’ Herein lies great blessedness for our souls. It comforts and encourages us to contemplate election, as we did two days ago. It is even more comforting and of greater encouragement, that God would, predestinate us to become children of His by adoption. What great security there is in this fact. It is overwhelmingly delightful that the Great Father has predetermined that I would become His adopted child. It is as if He has said, ‘Yes, I choose you, and not only choose you, but have already determined your status in my Family. You shall be my child. You shall be my heir, and a joint-heir with Christ, Your Elder Brother. You shall bear my Name. You shall be mine, not just for time, but for all eternity. You shall dwell forever in the place which Christ has been preparing for you.’ Here is Great security today. By God’s intention, you are a child of the King. Go forth with this in mind today.

Our Most Holy and Wise Father, we rejoice in Your predestinating Grace.
We praise You that You have made us Your Own dear children,
And that we enjoy all the rights and privileges of the Sons of God.
