The Liberating Christ
The Liberating Christ
…Loose him, and let him go.
John 11:44
As an epilogue to our little study of the past several days, we come to our text for today. Let us take the opportunity, please, to contemplate the final words of Christ to the people at the graveside, ‘Loose him and let him go.’ Herein lies something worth considering. Christ had raised Lazarus from the dead with a few words. Now He tells the people, ‘Loose him and let him go,’. Do we not find it so with us? Salvation is from start to finish, the work of God. No one else, but Christ could raise Lazarus from the dead. Christ then turned to the people and gave them the high privilege of liberating this bound man from the ties that held him in his old state and condition. They did this at the behest of Christ and by His clear direction. So it is also with us. We see Christ raise people from the dead. We see him infuse them with new life and spiritual vitality. He gives to us then, the great privilege of assisting those folks to become free from the old bonds of their former state and condition. We do so not by taking liberty and making it license, but by showing them the ongoing work which Christ is doing in their lives. In all circumstances and conditions, by peeling off the old bonds, we assist these ‘new creatures’ in Christ to see Him more clearly, and to walk with Him, who were before, ‘dead in trespasses and sin.’
Our Great Savior and Living Lord,
we praise You for Your grace and favor.
You raise the dead to life and grant unto us
the opportunity to share in the ministry of liberation
which You are carrying out through our hands.
