A Clear Sight

A Clear Sight

A Clear Sight of Christ

They answered and said to him, “You were completely born in sins, and are you teaching us?” And they cast him out.  Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said to him, “Do you believe in the Son of God?” He answered and said, “Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?”  And Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you.” Then he said, “Lord, I believe!” And he worshiped Him.

John 9:34-38

Christ always works with a clear purpose and end in view. His purposes and ends may not be clear to us, yet to Him they are as crystal and unwavering. If we stand back and look at the panorama of Scripture, it reveals to us the God who ‘knows the end from the beginning,’ and who, ‘performs all things after the counsel of His Own will.’ This is true in the grand scheme of things, and also true regarding individuals. Our passage today is the end of the story of the man born blind. Christ met the man at the point of his defining issue. Christ treated him as an individual. In today’s portion of our consideration we see that, after the Pharisees had thrown him out of the synagogue for his defense of Christ, Christ finds him and engages him in conversation. As Christ does so, He reveals Himself to the man as, ‘the Son of God.’ Here is a man who had been born blind, who now was able to see Who Christ is both physically and spiritually. So it is with us. Christ meets us at the point of our defining issue. Christ deals with us as individuals. Christ then deals with us in such a way as to give us a clear sight of Who He really is. This is a grand privilege, and a glorious opportunity. To know and fellowship with the Christ of Glory is the pinnacle of life, both temporal and eternal. Today, let us rejoice that Christ deals with us as He does, in order that we might ever have a clear sight of Him.

Our Great and Shining Savior,
we rejoice in You and in Your revelation of Yourself unto us.
We praise You that we see You evermore clearly, as You,
by your Holy Spirit, enable us.
