Scripture:  Matthew 11:16-19

But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows, And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented. For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil. The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

Sermon:  The Friend of Publicans and Sinners

1. In the mouths of His enemies, this was a bitter accusation.
2. In the light of the evidence, this was an indisputable fact.
3. In the experience of His people, this is a blessed assurance.

What is required in the fifth commandment?

The fifth commandment requireth preserving the honor, and performing the duties, belonging to everyone in their several places and relations, as superiors, inferiors, or equals.

1 Romans 13:1, 7. Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God…. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. Ephesians 5:21-22, 24. Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord…. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Ephesians 6:1, 4-5, 9. Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right…. And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ…. And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him. 1 Peter 2:17. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king.
