The Christ of the Individual

The Christ of the Individual
When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam.” So he went and washed, and came back seeing.
John 9:6,7
God is the God of the individual. He Who sees the sparrow fall, has great interest in us as individuals. God has, from the beginning of time, dealt with people one by one. He called Abraham out of Ur of the Chaldees. He spoke to Moses when he was all alone in the backside of the desert. He spoke to the ancient prophets, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel in very different and unique ways. God does not deal with us in a ‘one size fits all’ manner. In our text for today, we find Christ dealing with the man born blind as an individual. ‘When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay. And He said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam.” So he went and washed, and came back seeing.’ Here we find that Christ does something unique. This underscores all that we have considered regarding God’s method of dealing with us. God is the God of the individual; Christ is the Christ of the individual. Because He knows us infinitely better than we know ourselves, He knows how best to deal with us. This surprises us at times. God will do something in our life and we think, ‘Why did He do that?’ Yet, eternity alone will reveal that this unique thing which He did was exactly what we needed. Jesus never fails to do to us, and for us, what needs to be done for our greatest good and for His Own highest glory. Today we may greatly rejoice that Christ, treats us as individuals. ‘He performs the thing that is appointed for me, and many such things are with Him.’
Our Kind and Loving Savior,
we praise Your Holy name,
that You look upon us one by one
and treat us as Your Own dearly beloved.
