Justice for the Oppressed
Justice for the Oppressed
Who executes justice for the oppressed….
Psalm 146:7
The world is full of oppressed people. One of the most unattractive aspects of humanity is our remarkable ability to be cruel to one another. History has given us startling examples of oppression and oppressors. Their names appear before us like a veritable Who’s Who of villains. Hitler, Lenin, Stalin, Mao-Tse-Tung, Pol Pot are but a few who have murdered millions and oppressed multiplied millions. By contrast, we behold Christ, who ‘executes justice for the oppressed.’ Under the heels of oppressors, both great and petty, humanity groans and suffers with unabated misery. Who will show them any good? We observe the arrogance of the oppressors, but we also see that their doom is certain. Who will step in to put down these proud, self-important, and unutterably cruel oppressors? Christ will ‘execute justice for the oppressed.’ There comes the day ‘when the Son of Man shall come, and all the holy angels with Him. Then shall He sit upon the Throne of His Glory.’ He shall render judgment and justice. He shall call into account all these oppressors for all the evil they have done. He shall send them away into the torments of eternal punishment. They shall not escape. Today, saint of God, if you find yourself, suffering under the heel of an oppressor, realize that Christ ‘executes justice for the oppressed.’ Look to Him, He will not fail to do all that He has promised.
Our Strong and Mighty God,
we rejoice that You execute judgment and justice
for those who are oppressed.
We praise You that Christ our Savior shall defeat all of His enemies,
and all of ours.
