Sparing No Expense
Sparing No Expense
On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’
Luke 10:35
Christ finishes what He starts. As He continued to give the parable of the Good Samaritan in illustration of the fulfillment of the law, He brought it to the conclusion which serves as our text today, ‘On the next day, when he departed, he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’’ What we see here, if we continue along the path of seeing Christ as the Good Samaritan, is that He spares no expense to effect total recovery. The Samaritan employed his own resources to make certain that the beaten and robbed man received the best of care. Notice, ‘he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said to him, ‘Take care of him; and whatever more you spend, when I come again, I will repay you.’ Here we behold a lovely picture of what Christ does for us. He spares no expense to effect our total healing. He spared no expense in ‘being born and that in a low estate.’ He spared no expense in living a perfect life to satisfy all the demands of the Law in precept. He spared no expense in that He died upon the cross, thereby satisfying the Law of God in penalty. ‘He poured out His soul unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors.’ He spares no expense today in that He ‘ever lives to make intercession,’ for all His Blood-Bought people. He spares no expense in that He Will effect a complete sanctification of us by the work of the Holy Spirit. Christ is not satisfied to leave His work in us partially complete. He will infallibly, perfectly finish that which He has begun in us. Of that, we may be gloriously certain.
Our Good and Gracious Savior,
we praise You that You have spared no expense,
to bring about our total healing,
We rejoice that You will finish what You have started
and that ‘all the ransomed church of God shall be saved to sin no more.’
