The Savior of the Body: The Son’s Exaltation

For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.

Ephesians 5:23

Christ’s role as, ‘The Savior of the Body,’ does not end with His humiliation. It extends far beyond that to include, in every respect, His exaltation. What is the exaltation of Christ? ‘Christ’s exaltation consists in the rising again from the dead on the third day, in ascending up into heaven, in sitting at the right hand of God the Father, and in coming to judge the world at the last day.’ If we are going to contemplate the ways in which Christ is ‘The Savior of the Body,’ we must include this because of its ramifications in time, as well as, in eternity. By this, we mean that Christ was ‘raised again for our justification.’  By this, we mean that He ascended, to heaven with a mission. By this, we mean that ‘He ever lives to make intercession for us.’ By this, we mean that He, ‘will come again to receive you unto Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.’ By this, we mean that He will sit upon the Throne of His Glory, ‘and divide, the sheep from the goats.’ All these elements of the exaltation have direct bearing upon us, in our relation to Him, as, ‘The Savior of the Body.’ They all figure in the larger scheme of Him acting on behalf of the Father in order to ‘bring many sons and daughters to glory.’ In this we may greatly rejoice and have confidence today. Christ will finish for us, in us, and with us, all which He has begun. ‘He will not fail nor be discouraged.’ If He is not discouraged, then we need not be, but rather encouraged. Jesus never fails.

High King of Heaven,
we rejoice in You, the Highly Exalted Christ.
We praise You, that before You,
‘every knee will bow…and every tongue confess, that Jesus Christ is Lord.’
