All In God’s Time

Then the chief butler spoke to Pharaoh, saying: “I remember my faults this day…There was a young Hebrew man with us there, a servant of the captain of the guard. And we told him, and he interpreted our dreams for us; to each man he interpreted according to his own dream.…

Genesis 41:9&12

God’s timing is perfect. We do not always, or perhaps ever, comprehend why He does things when He does. It is not as important that we understand all these things; but it is important that we trust Him to do what is good, right, and best for us in the ‘fullness of time.’ The butler, of whom we were speaking yesterday, forgot about Joseph for ‘two full years.’ This was a ‘fault’ to which the butler readily admitted. Having said that, Pharaoh had a dream, which he could not understand. The butler suddenly remembered Joseph. This was, ‘the fullness of time.’ In short order, Pharaoh had Joseph brought before him. He told Joseph the dream.  Joseph interpreted it for him. He made it clear that a severe famine was to follow seven years of plenty. Joseph advised Pharaoh to appoint a Prime Minister to take care of Egypt for the upcoming years. Pharaoh immediately appointed Joseph. Here was the Plan and Purpose of God for Joseph coming to fruition. Just as God did with every other character in Scripture, He prepared Joseph for the right moment, and conformed him to the Image of Christ, to the extent that he must be, in order to perform his portion of the larger Plan and Purpose of God. So, God does with us. He prepares us, perhaps for many years, and puts us into service, ‘in the fullness of time,’ that we might fulfill His Will, and point people to Christ, by life and lip. The best sermons are lived, not preached.

Great God of Providence,
we praise You that Your Timing is perfect.
We rejoice that You bring us to the exact place
where we need to be, in Your Perfect Time to fulfill Your Perfect Will.
