Christ, The Prophet: Freedom

Christ, The Prophet: Freedom

Christ, The Prophet:  Freedom

This Moses whom they rejected, saying, ‘Who made you a ruler and a judge?’ Is the one God sent to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the Angel who appeared to him in the bush.  He brought them out, after he had shown wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red Sea, and in the wilderness forty years.

Acts 7:35-36

As The Prophet like Moses, Christ brings His people out of bondage and into freedom. Remember, that God had met with Moses at the burning bush.  There, He had revealed to him His purpose, that Moses should liberate the children of Israel out of bondage, and deliver them to a place of freedom.  Having received this revelation from God, Moses had to communicate the message to the children of Israel; again speaking to the people for God.  He then proceeded to do all that was necessary to make them a free people.  Christ is the Prophet like Moses, in that He also delivers the message of freedom to His people, and does all that is necessary to bring them out of bondage and into liberty.  When Christ read the Scriptures in the synagogue at Nazareth, He read Isaiah, ‘The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.’  When He had finished, He declared, ‘Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.’  Notice the statement, ‘to proclaim liberty to the captives.’  This is exactly what Christ did, and yet does.  By His Spotless Life; by His Atoning Death; by His Powerful Resurrection; by His Perpetual Intercession; and by His Glorious Return, Christ brings His people out of the house of bondage and into the glorious freedom of Gospel liberty; not just for time, but for all eternity.  ‘Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.’ Christ, the Prophet like Moses, brings His people out of bondage and into freedom.

O, Captain of our salvation,
we rejoice that You are the Great Liberator
of all Your Blood-bought People.
We praise You, that You bring us out of the house of bondage,
and into the Glorious Liberty that is in You.
