The Ruler

The Ruler

The Ruler

John, to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Revelation 1:4-6

One of the aspects of the Kingship of Christ is His Rulership. This is, as our text presents it, in the broadest sense, that He is ‘the ruler over the kings of the earth.’ In context, the person who is ascribing this position to Him is John, the Beloved Disciple, writing under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. If John thus describes Him as, ‘the ruler over the kings of the earth,’ who must submit to His Authority, whether they want to or not, how much more must Christ be the Ruler over His Own people. We have indications from elsewhere in Scripture that this is so. Again we refer to Psalm 110:3, ‘Your people shall be volunteers In the day of Your power; In the beauties of holiness, from the womb of the morning, You have the dew of Your youth.’ He Himself describes how this Rulership appears in real time, ‘My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.’ In Revelation, the fourth and fifth chapters give to us a picture of Christ, the Lamb, ruling on the Throne of Heaven and His people worshipping Him. We are utterly the subjects of King Jesus. As His Holy Spirit sanctifies us, He enable us more and more to follow His Leadership. This brings us more and more into conformity with His Image, and makes us more and more useful in the advancement of His Kingdom. Today, let us dwell upon the fact that the King of Kings, is our King and that He gives us direction daily as to how most and best to glorify Him. His wish is ever our command.

O, Christ, our King, our God, and our Savior.
We rejoice that You, rule and reign over all things and all people.
We praise You, that you shall forever reign,
and that Your Kingdom shall have no end.
