‘To Him Who Loved Us…’

…and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests….

Revelation 1:5-6a

John, the Beloved Disciple, is beginning to write, ‘the Revelation of Jesus Christ.’ As he does so, he arrives at a chorus of praise for the Christ, Whom he is about to reveal in scene after scene. At the heart of that, he touches upon a subject which relates closely to some of our recent meditations. We spent a large portion of time dwelling upon Christ, the Mediator. As the Mediator, He is Prophet, Priest, and King. Ultimately this relates to us in very specific ways. John writes, ‘To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priest to His God and Father.’ Christ is the King of Kings, and He makes us ‘kings.’ Christ is the High Priest, and He makes us ‘priests.’ Over the next few days we will spend some time meditating upon these things as the logical follow-on of Christ fulfilling His Office of Mediator. For the remainder of today, let us dwell upon the Love which Christ manifested toward us. His Love toward us is an Everlasting Love. His Love toward us is a Particular Love. He set His Love upon us, directs it, and concentrates it toward us. We are the beneficiaries of His Love. That translates into the washing of ‘us from our sins in his own blood,’ as well as His making of ‘us kings and priests.’ The Love of Christ has a glorious end purpose. For today, let us spend our time mediating upon Christ Himself, and the Love which He has shown, and is yet showing toward us.

‘O, Love, that will not let me go.
I rest my weary soul in Thee.’
You have loved me unconditionally,
By your love, You have made me all that I am,
and will make me more than I could ever hope to be.
