And These Shall Go Away

And These Shall Go Away

And These Shall Go Away

And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.

Matthew 25:46

When we speak of the Last Judgment, we must, of necessity speak of the logical conclusion of it. Christ declares what the logical conclusion is at the end of His description of the Last Judgment, ‘And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.’ Again the concept of the ‘eternal punishment’ arises, not from the inference of less a person than Christ Himself. It is not Moses, Paul, or any of the prophets or apostles who make this statement about eternal punishment. The words of Christ are, for us, the end of all argument. Why raise this subject? We raise it because it is our solemn duty to declare ‘the whole counsel of God.’ If we speak of eternal reward, we must as well speak of eternal punishment. Christ spoke more upon the subject of Hell, than He did on the subject of Heaven. We cannot, if we are to speak of eternal things, speak of one without making reference to the other. Yes, there is a Last Judgment, and, yes, there is both an eternal reward, and an eternal punishment. The question for every soul is, ‘Where will I land;’ righteous or unrighteous; saved or lost; sheep or goat; heaven or hell? This is the division, and Christ is the Great Divide. Consider your end well. ‘Now is the accepted time….now is the day of salvation.’ We call upon you to ‘believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved.’ Do not wait another day or hour. Embrace Christ, while there is time.

Our Just and Righteous God,
We rejoice that You do all things well.
Even in the hardest matters, You show Your Character,
to be Perfect, Wise and Good.
Evermore, enable us to rejoice in the Wisdom of Your ways.
