‘My Righteous Servant’

‘My Righteous Servant’

‘My Righteous Servant’

He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities.

Isaiah 53:11

The Righteousness of Christ is critical to the Grand Scheme of God’s Plan of Redemption. The larger passage from which our text derives is a graphic description of the Suffering Christ during His Passion and Crucifixion. Here is ‘the Servant of Jehovah’ accomplishing the Atoning Sacrifice which He Alone could effect. Our text describes Him as ‘My Righteous Servant.’ Christ must be Righteous for God’s Plan of Redemption to succeed. By His Righteous Life, Christ satisfied all the demands of Gods’ Law in precept. To everything which God’s Law requires, Christ has rendered full obedience. Not one prohibition of God’s legal requirements has Christ ever transgressed. So far as God is concerned, Christ is in every respect, ‘My Righteous Servant.’ Because He is, He is utterly qualified to be the Redeemer. The Atoning Sacrifice of Christ which comprises His Passive Obedience, completes His satisfaction of God’s Law. Because He is the ‘Righteous Servant,’ God imputes His Righteousness unto all for whom God has intended it. Christ receives the imputation of our sin, we receive the imputation of His Righteousness. This is that Grand Transaction which guarantees our Redemption. We dwell today upon Christ as, ‘My Righteous Servant,’ because apart from Him, His Life, His Death, and His continuing Work, we have no hope of acceptance with God. ‘He is our Peace.’

Our most Wise and Sovereign God,
we rejoice today in Christ, the Altogether Lovely One.
We praise You, that He is our Righteousness,
and that with ‘His stripes we are healed.’
