A Satisfied Desire
A Satisfied Desire
‘Lord, now let Your servant depart in peace, according to Your word; for my eyes have seen Your salvation….’
Luke 2:29-30
Simeon is a fascinating character. He appears, in cameo, in Luke chapter two, shortly after the birth of Christ. He is a holy man, coming rapidly to the end of his earthly pilgrimage. The great desire of his life was to behold with his own eyes, the Living Christ. God, by the Holy Spirit, had promised him that it would come to pass. The context of our text describes God’s fulfillment of His Promise to Simeon. What did this mean to Simeon? This was the fulfillment of a long-term desire. What does the truly spiritual person value? He values that which draws him nearer to the true and living God. It is a clear sight of Christ which draws us closer to God. God satisfied Simeon’s long-term desire by allowing him to hold in his arms, the Infant Christ. We also, may behold Christ. While it is true that we cannot, as Simeon did, hold Him in our arms, or see Him now, with our physical eyes, yet, the Scriptures show Him to our eyes of faith again and again. This is a satisfying sight of Christ which God affords us on a daily basis, as we make use of the means of grace which He has provided. Today, look into His Word. Seek to see Christ there. Pray that God will satisfy, your heart’s desire to behold the Lord’s Salvation.
Our Loving and Wise God,
we rejoice that You satisfy the desires of Your holy, longing people.
We praise You, that You never fail to show us Christ,
in every way that You desire us to see Him.
