’To Whom Shall We Go’
‘To Whom Shall We Go’
But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.”
John 6:68
Not everyone embraced all that Christ had to say. The context of our text reveals that after Christ had made bold declarations of truth, ‘From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.’ This was a plain and unmistakable departure, because Christ asks the disciples, ‘will you also go away?’ This a watershed moment in His relationship with His disciples. Peter, ever the spokesman for the group, replies with the words of our text, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go?’ Here is the real question, If we will not go to Christ, then to whom will we go? We have read the philosophers and they do not have the answers. We have heard the religionists, and all they done is to bind more burdens upon us which are ‘heavy and grievous to be born.’ We have heard the clamoring of the cheerleading motivational speakers and their platforms fall in a heap in the face of the realities of life. Peter understood that there was no one else to whom a desperate people could go. Christ does indeed have ‘the words of eternal life.’ He has those words, and all the other words we need to understand life and how to live it. Christ not only has the answer, but Christ is the Answer. Hence, we cannot emphasize Him too much, nor prize Him too highly. ‘Lord, to whom shall we go?’ Nowhere else, but to You.
Our Wise and Wonderful Savior,
we rejoice that You know all things.
We Praise You that by Your Holy Spirit, You guide us into all truth.
We have come to You and are satisfied.
