‘My Savior’
‘My Savior’
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
Luke 1:47
The only person in all of human history who did not need a Savior was Jesus Christ. Every other person who has proceeded from Adam and Eve by ordinary generation has needed a Savior. Mary was no exception. Mary understood this; hence, we find her statement in the text which lies before us today. Mary understood that even though God had chosen her to be the bearer of the Savior, she was herself in need of that Savior. This is her testimony. It evidences a high level of evangelical understanding and sound theology. In this respect, we have much to glean from her testimony. This gives us a clear understanding of the need of humanity. ‘There is none righteous; no, not one.’ We all stand in need of a Savior. There is only one Savior and Christ is that Savior. Mary understood that from what God had revealed to her. She relied upon ‘God my Savior.’ It is utterly the same for us. Christ is the only antidote for our sin-sickness. Apart from Him there is no Mediator, no way to God, and no salvation. Christ Himself declared it, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.‘ If we understand this clearly, we will fly to Christ, place all our faith in Christ, cling to Christ, and rest in Christ. This will bring us both peace and joy. Our testimony then will be the same as Mary’s, ‘My spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.’
Our Gracious Master and Our God,
we rejoice in Christ our Savior.
We praise You that He has done all things well
and that by Him, we are redeemed, and that forever.
