Authority Over All Flesh

Authority Over All Flesh

Authority Over All Flesh

As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.

John 17:2

Not everyone acknowledges the authority of Christ.  That a person refuses to acknowledge Christ’s authority, in no way diminishes the fact that He has it.  Refusal to accept the authority of Christ tells us something about the person who refuses.  This is simply the outward manifestation of a depraved heart.  As Christ prays to His Father, in this critical hour, He continues to speak truth.  We may concur and approve of that truth, or reject it; but our acceptance or rejection will not change it.  A person may refuse to accept the laws of electricity, but that will not stop electrocution.  The same is true for any other natural law, be it gravity or something else that we can cite. The matter with which we must come to grips is, will we acknowledge Christ, and His authority, or attempt to refuse Him and end up submitting anyway?  This is a fact which grates upon our depraved heart.  While Christ is not attempting to make this point in a confrontational manner, the logical implications of what He is saying are clear.  We will become more peaceful and content as we acknowledge and accept Christ’s authority.  For us to fail, resist, and rebel is to make a hard bed for ourselves.  Regardless of who we are to man, we live under the authority of Christ.  Let us acquaint ourselves with Him and be at peace.

Our King, Our God and Our Savior,
we rejoice that Your rule over us is perfect.
We praise You that You exercise Your authority,
in our lives, to bring us to a glorious end.
