‘Glorify Your Son’

…Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee.

John 17:1b

God does everything in the fullness of time. According to His Own divinely ordained schedule. He is often early, but never late. In our text for today, Christ prays, ‘Father the hour has come.’ Christ understood rightly what was about to happen. He had already prophesied that if He was lifted up from the earth upon the cross, that He would attract all manner of people unto Him. He understood that the agonies of His deepest humiliation, and His continuing under the power of death for a time would be the gateway to His exaltation, when He would rise from the dead; ascend into heaven; intercede for His people; come again in glory; defeat His enemies; judge the living and the dead; and that every knee would bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. All these events would amalgamate as the means by which Christ would glorify God, His Father. This is important for us to understand if we would learn to pray as Christ prayed, laying our emphasis where He lays His. Our praying should be to the end that Christ will get the glory and that as the result of it, God would be glorified. This lifts our praying above the mundane. This brings us to pray with greater and higher purpose. This brings us to pray with Christ, ‘Father…Glorify Your Son,’ for He is worthy.

Our Holy and Righteous God,
we rejoice that You are accomplishing
all Your Will by Glorifying Christ.
We praise You that we may look to Him
and in looking to Him, Glorify You.
