‘Now They Have Known’
’Now They Have Known’
Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.
John 17:7
We do not apprehend the truth of God all at once. As He reveals His truth unto us by degrees, He enables us to take it in at our level of spiritual maturity. With more maturity comes a greater apprehension of truth. Christ refers to this growth in grace in the lives of His disciples. Our text for today declares, ‘Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.’ It was of the utmost importance that the disciples of Christ understood the relationship between Christ and His Father. They had to be utterly convinced that everything which Christ had, He had received from God His Father. This would be the only way that they would be able to go forth with the message of the Gospel to the entire world. They would face violent opposition. All manner of people would do their utmost to silence them. Being filled with the Spirit of God, and being utterly convinced of the Person and work of Christ, they would preach Christ until their enemies murdered them. They have left their written testimonies for us, that we also might be so thoroughly and utterly convinced. This will affect our own lives as we dwell in our communities. We need not go to the far-flung corners of the globe before we have proclaimed Christ at home. We know Christ, Who He is and from Whom He has received all the things which He has shown us. Now, it is our turn to speak.
Great God of Wonders,
we rejoice at the expanse of Your revelation.
We praise You that Christ has revealed,
all these things to us that we may believe,
and therefore speak.
