‘I Come To You’

And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee.  Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

John 17:11

Christ descended from His Father to become the Babe in the manger.  For thirty-three years, He abode upon the earth in the ‘form of a servant.’  For the purposes of redemption, He endured all the experiences of true humanity with perfection of thought, word, and deed.  His communion with His Father was constant.  Now, as He closes in on the culmination of all that He came to accomplish, He could, as it were, see the lights of Home.  With fullness of heart and the understanding that He had yet to climb the greatest mountai, Christ breathes out this one affirmation of His destination.  He says, ‘I come to You, Holy Father.’  No lights shine brighter than the lights of home.  Of what value is this thought to us?  Christ went to His Father’s House to make a place for us to be there too.  Earlier that same evening, Christ had told the disciples, ‘In my Father’s house are many mansions:  If it were not so, I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.’  Christ will not be satisfied until all for whom He lived and died appear with Him in scenes of glory.  He is even now in the Presence of God His Father and ‘ever lives to make intercession for us.’  We have the blessed assurance that where the Head is, there the Body shall ultimately be.  If Christ is there, then we shall be there too.  ‘A few more rolling suns, at most, shall land me on fair Canaan’s Coast.’

Our Gracious Master, and our Loving Savior,
we rejoice that You have gone before us into the Heavenly Kingdom.
We praise You that You will not fail to bring us
into Your Eternal Presence, in due course of time.
