‘Mine’ and ‘Yours’
‘Mine’ and ‘Yours’
And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.
John 17:10
Christ has His Own people. The Scripture describes those people in various ways. They are His Church, His Bride, His Body and His Sheep. They are all of the redeemed of all ages. Christ identifies those people as His, and has done, and is doing all that is necessary to bring them to an eternally good place as a perfected people. In our text for today, Christ declares that these people are God’s people. He says, ‘all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine.’ This underscores a truth with which we must come to grips personally. If we want to identify as God’s people, we must, of necessity, at the same time, identify as Christ’s people. According to Christ, He and the Father are inextricably, irrevocably connected. They are two Members of the Trinity, and as such, share all things which they possess in common. This includes the people who are theirs. If we are God’s people, we are Christ’s people. If we are Christ’s people, we are God’s people. This is a blessed assurance. It is also a sobering truth. We cannot claim to be God’s people without being loyal to Christ. Christ is the cornerstone. He is the Foundation, ‘other than which no man can lay.’ Today, let us examine our loyalty to Christ. How do we demonstrate it? What does it look like in day to day life? We are His, and we are God’s. This cannot fail to practically affect us.
Our Gracious God and Heavenly Father,
We rejoice at the relationship that exists between You and Your Son.
We praise You that You have granted unto us the blessed privilege
of being counted as both Yours and His.
